In Southern California in the 40s or 50s, you were either a jock, a hot rodder or a candy ass. I sure as hell wasn’t a jock - skinny little guy - but man could I build an automobile. In the 40’s I got my first Model A and made a hell of a fun car out of it. I’ve been driving sprint cars and midgets. I drove my first midget in 1947 which is long time ago. I survived the sprint car midget thing long enough to look at the Corvette. Of course the first Corvette in my opinion was awful.  A 6 cylinder plastic pachyderm, you know.

Here we had V8’s and we were going 130 miles an hour. I kind of wrote it off, but man when that little V8 came out, it changed my whole life. That Corvette from that point on defined my life. I was Roger Penske’s first professional driver in 1965. I won 3 West Coast Championships with the car. I won the Daytona 12/24 hour for Mr. Penske; 12 hours of Sebring. We set track records at Le Mans - all with the Corvette. Of course Jim Garner and I were partners and it was wonderful. So the Corvette just defined my life (putting his hand on his heart). I love it! www.specialcarstore.com/content/petersen-corvette-60th-anniversary-racers-panel-intro
