Chino Hills CA, June 1 2019 - Something unusual happened at the 12th Annual 2019 Steve McQueen Car & Motorcycle Show - the sun didn't come out from the clouds. The typical weather makeup of the Boys Republic car show in Chino Hills is early June Gloom cool fog (all the way from the coast) until late morning, then glorious sun emerges to bake everything in sight.

While reflecting color of the star car attractions may have been dimmed, the large crowd surely enjoyed walking around in more comfortable temperatures.
Each year the Show boasts a McQueen movie-based theme - this year the movie theme was "The Towering Inferno" (1974). While lacking a trademark McQueen car or motorcycle prop, there was ample opportunity to share the spotlight with the fire fighter alumni. A great lineup of mint vintage firetrucks provided a red metal gauntlet to honor to the firefighting community.
The big weekend event always starts with a fund-raising dinner Friday - attracting an ever increasing crowd of Boys Republic supporters. Just 2 years ago they could fill the old gymnasium - today they can fill a huge circus tent with enthusiastic patrons willing to hand over cash to this great cause. On this Friday night they donated a whopping $562,000 - clear cash in the bank to invest immediately into more goods for the Boys.
The growing success of the event is showing up in new facilities at Boys Republic, including the fabulous new kitchen and dining complex, a new gym and an acre of two of shiny black pavement under the giant event tent put up last year. We can thank Dunkel Bros. Machinery Moving for the tarmac, which made a big difference for the Boys Republic adoring contributors.
In addition to Boys Republic staff guided by the likes of Chris Burns and Cathy Bertolette, the Board members for the Steve McQueen Car Show work tirelessly through the year to prepare for the event, and every year the organization just seems to roll bigger but smoother. Good folks like Ron Harris, Don Ince, Brad Boyle, Dave Kunz, Matt Stone and other auto-like-minded supporters have made this event a part of their existence, putting in countless hours of effort focused on providing a winning show that makes money for Boys Republic.
The smiles on their faces Saturday gave away their utter happiness at succeeding at this task.
