About 75 special interest cars dusted off the fallen tree leaves for one last Coachmen Car Club event to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Booking a date for the Fall Roundup must be a bit of an apprehensive gamble in these parts - it could as easily featured sunshine, rain or snow; possibly all three in any given day of October on the Canadian prairies.
The Classic Car gods smiled on this Saturday morning with bright sunshine through the teeth - saving 75 car washes later in the process.
The field of automobiles attending was almost exclusively North American makes - the same models that were available for sale here back in the days. Car folks drive what they loved in their youth - and there were no Ferraris or Lambos to love in this weather.
Refreshingly, the club members and fans love their cars at all stages of development - from the bare metal 55 Chevy to the blemished 67 Chevelle SS to the newer Dodge Challengers.
It's kind of sad to think that all these great cars will be going into seclusion and hibernation for a whole half a year, but maybe it's better that time gets tacked onto the survivors' lives. For once however, we'd love to see an old car or truck outfitted for the winter - maybe one with less than perfect paint and wheels, better wipers and higher springs. We know it would happen if it were practical...
