Tillicum Gorge Victoria BC, March 12 2018 - Vancouver Island is paradise for a lot of life forms - plants, animals, humans alike. The west coast is also very kind to old automobiles, and they are kind to us in return. The incredible landscape provides a great meeting point for all, as proven by the Gorge Tillicum Canada Day Show & Shine Car Show. The 2018 edition plays out July 1 from 9 AM to 4 PM.
We found out about this event in a roundabout way. We heard from theoretically good source that there was a car show noon at the Tillicum Centre (Victoria) on Sunday - upper level parking lot. Couldn't find any online information, so prepared for the trek to see first hand. After circling the long way around the mall, we spotted the roof of what had to be a classic. The roof arc and 60s shade of light yellow can only rep a few options. This 1967 Camaro fit the bill perfectly, but there wasn't another soul around. Maybe the show was not THIS Sunday.
Happy to salvage any trip with a hike, it wan't very far to the nearest point of water. That can be said of any place in Canada, but is a fact of Islandhood. The Esquimalt Gorge Waterway Park offers an amazing touchpoint for people to enjoy - right near or on the water. The highlight of the stroll is a pinch point in the cliffs where the water floods in and out of the narrows, depending on the tide. The park is a perfect setting for the Gorge Canada Day Picnic provided by the George Tillicum Community Association.
