Vancouver BC Canada - October 2018

The most colorful time of the year in Canada is autumn. Each geographic region has its own autumnal start and length of transition - subject to untold variations for when fall happens. With temperate coastal climate, Vancouver is among the last places in the country to convert green leaves into reds yellow browns and purples. These are the colors left after the energy seeking chlorophyll structures break down.

Vancouver itself is more colorful than the best of the leaves on the trees. Downtown is literally crawling with humans of all colors, creeds and sizes as well. There might be thousands of worldly tourists here, but the natives are as colorful in the variety of languages transacted on the streets and beaches. Being the supercar capital of North America, there is no shortage of automotive eye candy around either.

One thing you notice here is that every body is busy. Busy having fun, busy working, or busy getting where they need to go - some all at the same time. Incoming float planes crisscross ferries and yachts and cargo ships. Except for the odd crazy man railing at the moon, everyone enjoys life and gets along so well it's like you were in some place that forgot how to be mad.

When the west coast winter sets in a month or so from now, things will be very different. The color wheel narrows down to dark greens, browns and greys. The fair people of the land put away their skin, smiles and sunshine utensils for the winter, safe in the comfort that the new spring colors will come sooner here than elsewhere in the north country.
